At Remote Learner, our greatest strength is our staff. We have a diverse group of employees around the United States and Canada, individuals with unique backgrounds and skills needed to meet the challenges faced by our clients. In this blog, we regularly profile the staff members that make the Remote Learner team strong. This week we talked to Nick Vollten, a member of Remote Learner’s Account Management team.

Name: Nick Vollten

Position: Account Manager

Home: Fredericksburg, VA.

Brief: Nick lives with his wife, Katerina, and their dog, Bolt, in Fredericksburg, VA. Nick is a passionate client advocate and lifelong learner. He started his career in education, teaching courses in Public Speaking, Critical Thinking and Communication Theory at Radford University. He and his wife enjoy an active and adventurous lifestyle, traveling frequently and hiking and camping.

Q: Tell us a little about yourself, Nick.

A: I grew up in a small town in Virginia called Spotsylvania (yes, you read that right) where I went hiking, camping, fishing and generally experiencing all the outdoors had to offer. While I loved my hometown, I wanted to venture out and experience life in other places. After becoming the first person from my family to graduate from college and then finishing graduate school, I moved to Florida. I met my beautiful wife, Katerina, there. From there I had an opportunity to move to Colorado for work. While part of my heart will always remain in Colorado, my wife and I made the decision about three years ago to move back to Virginia to be closer to family. You can find me here in Virginia pursuing my many hobbies, from kayak bass fishing to archery as well as spending quality time with my family.

Q: Tell us about your career path to date.

A: It’s been full of surprises! I’ve done everything from working in public relations down in sunny South Florida to working in sales in the creative and marketing space out in the Mile High. Along the way I’ve also been a guest speaker for a variety of events and organizations, including Social Media Week in Miami and RefractorU School of Development in Colorado. Quirkiest gig? Probably my most recent job, where I took my sweet tooth to the next level by helping Mars Wrigley expand their presence in my hometown (and beyond!). Yes, there was free candy. And yes, cavities were also involved.

I feel fortunate to have recently joined the Remote Learner team. Here I’ve combined my passions for marketing communications, education, and client service to help bring a thoughtful and curious approach to solving our clients problems.

Q: What attracted you to Remote Learner?

A: While working in Colorado, I volunteered with a local organization called Rocky Mountain MicroFinance Institute. During my time there I was a business coach for local entrepreneurs. Rocky Mountain MicroFinance Institute gave me the opportunity to work with a number of passionate and talented individuals. Among them were Brendan Landy, now Remote Learner’s Account Operations Manager, and Ron Olsen, Remote Learner’s CEO. Having witnessed their strategic approach to business and education firsthand, I jumped at the opportunity to join them at Remote Learner. I believe in the mantra that “good people know good people”. In the case of Remote Learner that has never been more true, and I consider myself lucky to be part of the team.

Q: What’s a day at Remote Learner look like for you?

A: My day at Remote Learner starts and ends with the client. I make a list of priorities based on how greatly each individual will be impacted by the item at hand. Then I dive right in! In between client meetings, I try my best to sneak in a quick lunch-break walk with my Employee of the Month (three years running!): my dog, Bolt.

Q: Are there any opportunities you are particularly excited about bringing to your clients in 2020?

A: That is a great question, and one that I feel helps explain the true value that Remote Learner brings to our clients. In an industry that is constantly changing and evolving, Remote Learner does an amazing job of presenting our clients with an solution extremely tailored to addressing their problems. Each client is unique so the solution required to meet their needs should be, too. So yes, while I am very excited about introducing products such as Integration Manager, Job Sync, Data Fetcher and Account Sync, what I am most excited about is providing a unique and tailored approach to solve each of our clients specific challenges.
