Remote-Learner is excited about our upcoming participation in POET: Partners of Open Source Education Technologies (POET). POET is a joint venture among 6 Moodle LMS providers for the purpose of streamlining the process for the Moodle™ LMS plugin development. Several developers working towards the same mission and goals, contributing to Moodle’s™ development will have a positive impact on the Moodle community.
For Remote-Learner clients (and those of our provider partners), this means better, faster, cleaner adoption of new Moodle LMS functionalities, and ultimately, a better Moodle LMS.
Plugins are created by open-source developers and used by institutions and private organizations to customize or add new functionalities to the Moodle™ LMS. This contributes to Moodle’s™ flexibility as a viable application across many market segments and industries. Organizations add Moodle™ functionality to help solve business, process, and/or data collection challenges. In the upcoming months, Remote-Learner will focus on providing plugin sets for specific market segments, allowing the Moodle™ LMS to continue and evolve as a next-gen LMS.
Thanks to the new common standards and development guidelines, any plugin certified by a POET Working Group participating company will receive expedited validation when submitted to other members, allowing institutions to save money and time. Previously, developers were required to undergo a complex certification process prior to code adoption.
“The opportunity to work with this amazing group of companies, in support of common goals, is the main driver for Remote-Learner’s involvement with this initiative,” said Ron Olsen, CEO for Remote-Learner. “We are excited to explore additional opportunities to eliminate unproductive, overlapping efforts, enabling the community to invest more time into innovation that will enhance the Moodle™ platform and ensure its continued success.”
