“Make an Impact” is the driving force behind Remote-Learner’s corporate mission. While this is demonstrated every day through the work we do with clients, Remote-Learner is also committed to making a positive impact in the world at large. In 2016, we formed the R-L Giving Program, an employee-led, company-wide suite of giving initiatives with the purpose of extending the impact of our individual and collective works and generosity of time and spirit.

This past month, Remote-Learner made it a company-wide effort to support two causes – Plaid For Dad and The Longest Day. In the weeks preceding these events, we spread the word online and with family and friends, in an effort to raise awareness, as well as money, for these important causes.

Plaid For Dad is an annual fundraiser put on by Prostate Cancer Canada, a leading national foundation dedicated to the elimination of the most common cancer in men. Since 2015, the Friday before Father’s Day in Canada is officially designated as the day to wear Plaid for Dad. The R-L team works remotely, but staff were encouraged to wear plaid on June 15 for a virtual all-hands meeting. The image above captured just a few of the R-Lers who committed to wear plaid that day. Thanks to the generosity of staff, family and friends, our company raised 82% of our fundraising goal, $245 of $300.

Next was The Longest Day. This is an initiative of the Alzheimer’s Association, and this was the second year Remote-Learner employees formed a team. Participants were asked to spend an hour on June 21st – the longest day of the year – engaged in an activity they loved, or an activity loved by a friend or relative affected by Alzheimer’s.  Nineteen members of the R-L team committed to a range of activities, including…

  • Visiting with old friends
  • Volunteering at a girl’s camp
  • Live streaming a video game session
  • Dog walking and training
  • Developing film photographs
  • Spending time with family
  • Creating art
  • Exercise
  • Biking
  • Nature hikes

Thanks to their efforts – and the additional contributions of the R-L family and clients – we managed to shoot past our fundraising goal and donate $2,305 to the Alzheimer’s Association.

We’re proud of the charitable efforts we made in June and pleased that 97 percent of our staff donate regularly to charity, privately or through the R-L Giving program. But, we know support for our community doesn’t end with a single month of action and awareness. We encourage everyone to continue raising awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association and Prostate Cancer Canada throughout the year.
